Before Owl City, singer/songwriter Adam Young worked on the songs that became his side project Sky Sailing. More acoustic-based than Owl Citys electro-pop, Young wrote and recorded Sky Sailings songs in 2006, while he was still a Minnesota metalworker living with his parents. After Owl Citys Ocean Eyes became a hit, the Sky Sailing material was released as An Airplane Carried Me Up to Bed in summer 2010. Though Young did little publicity for it, An Airplane Carried Me Up to Bed did well in its digital version, becoming one of the most-downloaded new albums the week it was released.

'I was 22, alone with nothing to do,' sings Adam Young on 'I Live Alone.' That's roughly the story of, which preceded his other one-man band, the multiplatinum.
The latter resembled the Postal Service, and this set, mostly completed in 2007, recalls Ben Gibbard's other band, Death Cab for Cutie. Young's songwriting is often lean, and with acoustic textures replacing Owl City's synth beats, his dreamy introspection takes center stage.
On 'Sailboats,' he even pledges his achy love to Audrey Hepburn. Evidently, the kid always dreamed big.
